The New Haven Police Department is constantly striving to maintain a high degree of professional standards and ethics. The Internal Values and Ethics Unit is charged with the task of investigating complaints of misconduct by Department personnel.
You may contact the Internal Values & Ethics Unit in person, by phone or by mail. The office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, voicemail messages may be left for unit members before and after hours. Civilian complaint forms are available at the front desk of the police department and will be given to you upon request.
COMPLAINT PROCEDURE:
It is the policy of the New Haven Department of Police Service to investigate all complaints of misconduct against its employees. All investigations are conducted in a fair and expeditious manner in accordance with department, city, state and federal laws and regulations. Not all complaints result in official investigations. Every attempt is made to mediate minor issues utilizing the employee's supervisor. The Internal Values & Ethics Unit operates as a neutral investigative body to serve the needs of the community and the police department.
