Welcome to the New Haven Free Public Library

Main Library Location, Directions and Parking

Location

The Main Branch is located on 133 Elm Street, across from the New Haven Green on the corner of Temple and Elm Streets. The Library's map of Downtown New Haven shows more of the surrounding area than the map below.

Directions

By Car
Take I-95 North or I-95 South to I-91 North. Take Exit 3, Trumbull St. At the end of the ramp go straight to the third traffic light. Take a left onto Temple St. The library is two blocks up on the corner of Elm and Temple.

By Bus
Regularly scheduled routes stop in downtown New Haven. Call Connecticut Transit at 624-0151 for bus information.

By Train
Call Metro North at 1-800-638-7646 or Shoreline East at 777-7433 for trains to New Haven. Buses are available from the train station to downtown.

Parking

There is free on-street parking available near the Library after 5 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays. Also, Yale Lot 51, which is located behind the Library on Temple Street (see map above), is free and open to the public on weekdays after 4:00 and all day on Saturday and Sunday.

During business hours there is metered on-street parking. Several pay lots and garages are also available nearby.
