Gates Computer Lab
The New Haven Free Public Library is pleased to announce the opening
of our Gates Lab. The Gates Lab is located on the lower level of
the Main Library and is equipped with eleven Gateway 6000
computers, an HP LaserJet 4200n printer, and a ViewSonic PJ500 LCD
projector. Each computer has the full Microsoft Office suite as well
as Microsoft FrontPage, Microsoft PhotoDraw and Microsoft Publisher.
The Gates Lab is one of five that was created throughout the state.
The other locations include the Bridgeport Public Library, the New
Britain Public Library, the Hartford Public Library and the Silas
Bronson Library in Waterbury.
In keeping with one of the goals of the Connecticut State Library,
the Gates Lab will serve as a training site for other libraries
throughout the state. The Gates Lab will also fulfill one of the
goals of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation: to bridge
the digital divide that exists in many of our urban and rural
communities in the United States and U.S. Territories by providing
access to state-of-the-art technology.
The Gates Lab is available to the public to use as a training site as
well. Workshops are offered covering the following topics: Computer
Fundamentals, Email Basics, Internet Basics and Microsoft Word Basics.
