| May is national Older Americans Month. As I prepare to attend our annual Senior of the Year banquet today, I want to remind you to take some time to acknowledge the contributions of seniors in our community. Please remember to utilize the services offered by our Office of Elderly Services to help keep our seniors healthy, active and informed. Also, this is National Hamburger Month, a designation of much importance to New Haven, home of the first hamburger courtesy of Louis’ Lunch. Show your pride for New Haven’s firsts! New Haven to be Represented at the Prestigious Cannes Film Festival One of our very own New Haven Public School Teachers, Stephen Dest, who produced a short film entitled “Blind,” will have his work shown at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival later this month. I will honor Stephen, who is a teacher at Betsy Ross, this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Black Box Theater (located at Betsy Ross School). I welcome you to come out to celebrate Stephen’s accomplishments and to view the 15-minute film. Senior Expo Our annual Senior Expo will take place at the New Haven Athletic Center on Sherman Parkway from 10am until 2pm on Friday. This event brings together service providers, non-profit organizations, over 100 vendors and other parties that provide resources for the elderly. This is a fun-filled event that incorporates music, food and information for our seniors. This event is co-sponsored by the Agency on Aging of South Central CT and the City of New Haven.
