May 15, 2009 - NEW TRAFFIC SIGNAL OPERATION AT ROUTE 34 / EXIT 3. The flashing traffic signal at the terminus of Route 34 Exit 3 at North Frontage Road will return to normal operation on Wednesday, May 20, 2009.

May 15, 2009 - ELM CITY BIKE TO WORK BREAKFAST. Elm City Cycling, Yale University and the City of New Haven are celebrating National Bike to Work Month. Join many of the 600 bicycle commuters in New Haven for Street Smarts programs, free coffee and breakfast treats at City Hall.

May 9, 2009 - NATIONAL TRAIN DAY. Celebrate National Train Day at Union Station in New Haven! Presentations will include the work on the transit-oriented developments in the City, an update on the Hartford-Springfield Railroad and efforts to improve bike access on trains.

April 22, 2009 - NATIONAL CONVERSATION ON CLIMATE ACTION. Please join the City of New Haven, Yale University and Nelson\Nygaard Consultants for the panel discussion, "Reducing your carbon footprint through sustainable transportation".

January 23, 2009 - DOWNTOWN BIKE / PED PLAN COMMUNITY MEETING ANNOUNCED. Thursday January 29, 2009.
The South Central Regional Council of Governments (SCROG) & the City of New Haven will be hosting an action oriented community meeting centered on Pedestrian and Cycling Safety in Downtown New Haven. If you ever cross the street and wish you had more time, or if you like to ride your bike but wish the streets were better designed for you, come tell us at the meeting and share your ideas.

December 29, 2008CITY ANNOUNCES CHANGES TO THE PARKING VOUCHER AND CITY CARD PROGRAM. The City recently announced program modifications which enhance customer parking payment options. 

PROSPECT STREET BRIDGE WEIGHT RESTRICTION NOW IN EFFECT. The Prospect Street Bridge, located at the intersection of Prospect Street, Trumbull Street and Canal Streets, is now posted with a 15-ton weight restriction. The new weight restriction affects many construction routing plans, transit routes and other activities. Construction managers and transit systems have been notified and are working with the City on alternative routes. Thank you for your cooperation and compliance with the weight restriction.

October 1, 2008 - BLAKE STREET WILL BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC, Friday October 3, 2008.

September 29, 2008 - FARNHAM AVENUE WILL BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC, Wednesday October 1, 2008.

August 28, 2008 - TEMPLE STREET WILL BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC, effective immediately.

August 12, 2008 - HIGH STREET WILL BE CLOSED TO TRAFFIC between Chapel Street and Elm Street on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008.

August 8, 2008 - RUSSELL STREET FROM EAST GRAND AVENUE TO WARWICK STREET will be closed to traffic on Monday, August 11, 2008.


July 28, 2008 - New Reisdential Parking Zone - Parts of George Street, Greenwood Street, and Gilbert Avenue are now part of Residential Zone #6. Click here for details.

April 16, 2008 - ROUTE 34/ DOWNTOWN CROSSING SYMPOSIUM ANNOUNCED. Please join the City of New Haven, TriState Transportation Campaign, Yale Office of Transportation and the New Haven Urban Design League for a presentation with John Norguist, President of the Congress for the New Urbanism and former Mayor of Milwaukee, on Urban Highway Removal and the future of Route 34. The seminar will take place on Wednesday, April 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Career High School.

March 24, 2008 - LANE NARROWING ON CHAPEL STREET. To make sanitary and storm sewer connections at the Yale Art & Architecture building a contractor will be narrowing Chapel Street to one travel lane past the work site.

March 2008 - UTILITY INSTALLATION AT HOWARD AVENUE AND SIXTH STREET. This should have minor impact on traffic flow.

December 19, 2007 - PARKING AT SHARTENBERG LOT. Shartenberg Lot is Now Closed.

November 19, 2007 - FREE CT TRANSIT BUS PASSES NOW AVAILABLE. The State of Connecticut is promoting public transit by offering 10 free rides on CT Transit buses. Residents and commuters are encouraged to take advantage of this offer and join the 30,000 people who ride CT Transit every day.

November 14, 2007 - BIKE TO WORK DAY. Please be advised that Friday, November 16, 2007 is the next “Bike to Work Day,” sponsored by Elm City Cycling. Residents and commuters are encouraged to ease congestion and save money on gas by riding your bike to work.

October 2, 2007 - "Transit for Connecticut" Community Meeting. On Tuesday, October 2 at 9:00 AM, 200 Orange Street, New Haven, please join the Transportation, Traffic and Parking Department to advocate for expanded public bus service in New Haven. The Connecticut Association for Community Transportation and CT Transit are sponsoring this meeting to share ideas and suggestions. Elected officials, Connecticut Department of Transportation representatives and state transit advocates will be on hand to listen to our comments and concerns. Click here for more details.

August 28, 2007 - 2007-2008 RESIDENTIAL PARKING PERMITS ARE NOW AVAILABLE. If you live in a residential area, you can now visit 165 Church Street to purchase a Residential parking decal.

August 9, 2007 - PHASE IV SIGNAL WORK BEGINS THIS MONTH. As part of the ongoing effort to upgrade traffic signals across the city, work begins this month at 22 intersections . The work will be staged over the rest of the construction season, starting in Newhallville and then continuing in the Beaver Hills and West Rock neighborhoods.

July 6, 2007 - NEW PARKING REGULATIONS. New parking enforcement fines and penalties are in effect for 2007-08. This advisory outlines the new fine schedule and penalties as well as general parking information.

June 2007 - TROLLEY ACCESS TO DOWNTOWN. During the filming of the new Indiana Jones movie, several CT Transit lines have been re-routed to State Street. Downtown Trolleys are available to better access Chapel Street and the New Haven Green.
