Compost @ Home

Create rich, fertile soil for your yard by composting kitchen scraps, yard waste, and other appropriate organic materials in a backyard compost bin. While the City of New Haven does not offer compost services, you can request a small free compost bin for your yard at the Public Works Headquarters (34 Middletown Ave.) during normal business hours (203-946-7700).

HazWaste Central coordinates drop-off of hazardous wastes in the New Haven area.

E-Waste

Electronics and other electrical equipment should not be thrown out in the trash. If you can plug it in or if it has a battery (no light bulbs), you can recycle it at our Recycling Center (click for hours and directions).

Examples of accepted materials include:

• TVs
• Monitors
• Computers/Laptops
• Printers, fax machines, and scanners
• Keyboards, mice, power cords, etc.
• VCRs, DVD players, DVRs, cable receivers
• PDAs, portable digital music players, etc.
• Cell Phones, telephones, telephone equipment, calculators, etc
• Air Conditioning Units
