Compost @ HomeCreate rich, fertile soil for your yard by composting kitchen scraps, yard waste, and other appropriate organic materials in a backyard compost bin. While the City of New Haven does not offer compost services, you can request a small free compost bin for your yard at the Public Works Headquarters (34 Middletown Ave.) during normal business hours (203-946-7700). |

Yard Waste
Have yard waste or leaves to compost? Put your clippings in a brown leaf bag for collection. Do not mix yard waste with trash or recycling. The Department of Public Works collects yard waste along with trash and recycling on your neighborhood's collection day. Find your refuse collection day here.
E-WasteElectronics and other electrical equipment should not be thrown out in the trash. If you can plug it in or if it has a battery (no light bulbs), you can recycle it at our Recycling Center (click for hours and directions). Examples of accepted materials include:
