Welcome to the Office of Sustainability's website!

    What is Sustainability?

Sustainability entails meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, by making social and economic challenges compatible with environmental responsibility. For more information on the office, click here.

    Tuesday Recycling Rollout

Tuesday refuse routes will be receiving the new trash and recycling collection system soon. Please take a look at the following list of important dates:

    1. Brown 48-gallon toters for trash will be distributed on Saturday May 21st. There will be a bag containing information and instructions inside each toter.

    2. Residents will be asked to refrain from using the new toter until AFTER pickup on May 24th. May 24th will be the last day that trash is collected in the 96 gallon large blue toters, and recycling in the small 18-gallon blue bins.

    3. During and after collection on May 24th, stickers will be affixed to the existing 96 gallon large blue toters indicating that they are now the recycling receptacles.

To learn more about this program, please attend one of our two community meetings:

Celentano School (400 Canner Street) on May 11th at 7pm or Conte/West Hills Magnet School (511 Chapel Street) on May 12th at 7pm. Please help New Haven become more sustainable and save money by recycling more!
