About the Office
Vision
Our vision is of New Haven as a leader in environmental sustainability practices, and of our community having its environmental, social and economic needs met, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
Mission
The mission of the Office of Sustainability is to institute and advance sustainability practices and improve the environmental integrity of our City, while fostering a high quality of life for residents and businesses. We work to promote sustainability initiatives such as energy efficiency, pollution prevention, waste minimization, reuse and recycling, and to encourage the broader community to follow suit. In accelerating environmentally sustainable practices, we collaborate with City departments, business partners, non-profit and community-based organizations, and learning institutions.
Goals
Increase energy efficiency and renewable energy in municipal operations
Promote energy efficiency and sustainable living to residents, businesses, and institutions
Increase material conservation by promoting recycling and waste minimization
Improve air quality in our city and develop sustainable transportation strategy
