Small Business Initiative Program (SBI)
Small Business Initiative (Set- Aside Program). The City's purchasing policies
and procedures have been modified to incorporate this new ordinance. This
ordinance was promulgated as part of the City's ongoing effort to broaden and
diversify our contractor base. The intention of this legislation is to offer a
greater opportunity to Small Business Enterprises (SBE this category includes
Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) as well as Women Business Enterprises (WBE). The following summary will highlight the features of this policy.
This program is geared for the Construction Industry
The City Of New Haven is committed to developing and nurturing a competitive local construction industry in which Contractors for publicly financed projects provide efficient, high quality services, pay competitive wages to their employees, and represent New Haven's ethnic diversity.
The City Of New Haven has adopted a program for small, minority and women participation in construction contracts that are financed (in whole or in part) by the City Of New Haven. Therefore, construction contracts
(when applicable) valued under $100,000 will be reserved for award to registered SBIs on the basis of competitive bidding.
