The Department of Public Works for the City of New Haven provides a variety of services for its citizens. Street sweeping, refuse collections, snow plowing, sidewalk maintenance, road maintenance, and drainage repairs highlight most of our daily activities. We also maintain over 50 bridges, (three movable), operate the city’s recycling program, perform eviction storage and collections, maintain public facilities, maintain most city vehicles, and enforce regulation and laws that effect the right of way. Listed below is the mission of each of these tasks. Details of how citizens can request special services or have questions concerning various programs are listed on following pages.
