    I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing

    Corridor Improvement Program

    Weekly Update: December 14 - December 21, 2012

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the following construction activities for the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program for the week of Friday, December 14th, through Friday, December 21, 2012.

    WHAT TO EXPECT:

    INTERSTATE IMPACTS

    * Nighttime closure and detour of the Route 34 EB ramp to I-91 NB in New Haven will occur

    Monday, December 17th, through Friday, December 21st, between the hours of 10 PM and 5 AM. Closure and detour of the ramp is necessary to facilitate bridge construction. map

    * Nighttime 20 minute traffic stoppages are scheduled to occur on I-95 SB, in the vicinity of the I-95 SB off-ramp to I-91 NB (Exit 48), Tuesday morning, December 18th, through Saturday morning, December 22nd, between the hours of 12 AM and 5 AM. The traffic stoppages are

    necessary to facilitate bridge construction. map

    * Nighttime closure and detour of the I-95 SB off-ramp to Woodward Avenue (Exit 50) will occur Wednesday morning, December 19th, and Thursday morning, December 20th, between the hours of 12 AM and 5 AM. map

    * Nighttime 10 minute traffic stoppages are scheduled to occur on I-95 SB, in the vicinity of Exit 50 and the Woodward Avenue on-ramp, Monday mornings through Friday mornings, through January 18, 2013, between the hours of 12 AM and 5 AM. Traffic on the Woodward Avenue on-ramp will also be stopped during the 10 minute stoppages of I-95 SB. The traffic stoppages are necessary to facilitate bridge construction. Stoppages will not occur on holidays or restricted days. map

    * Nighttime lane closures may occur on I-95, I-91, Route 34, and the surrounding Interchange, weeknights between the hours of 9 PM and 6 AM. This work is necessary to facilitate bridge construction and roadway repairs.

    LOCAL ROAD IMPACTS

    * Continuous closure and detour of Stiles Street, between Kendall Street and Waterfront Street Connector, will begin before 5 AM Monday morning, December 17th, and continue until 3 PM

    Friday, December 21st. This work is necessary to facilitate bridge construction. map

    * Nighttime closure and detour of Water Street, between East Street and Chestnut Street, will occur Monday, December 17th, through Friday, December 21st, between the hours of 10 PM and 5 AM. This closure is in addition to the current lane reductions on Water Street and is nec-essary to facilitate steel erection. map

    * Daytime alternating one-way traffic will occur on Stiles Street, between Kendall Street and

    Waterfront Street Connector, Saturday, December 15th, between the hours of 6 AM and 4 PM. map

    * Daytime lane closure will occur on Long Wharf Drive, between Hamilton Street and Canal Dock Road, Saturday, December 15th, between the hours of 6 AM and 4 PM.

    * Daytime lane closures will occur on Forbes Avenue / US Route 1, between Fulton Terrace and Kendall Street, Monday, December 17th, through Friday, December 21st, between the hours of 9 AM and 4 PM. This work is part of a United Illuminating (UI) facility improvement project. Although this work is not part of the Program, UI has coordinated their work with ConnDOT in order to reduce the potential for conflicts and control the impact on local traffic.

    POTENTIAL VIBRATION / NOISE CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES

    * Daytime and nighttime construction activities that may create vibrations and/or noise will

    occur throughout the Interchange, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7 AM and 6 PM. This work is necessary to facilitate the construction of bridge foundations. Click here for locations.

    PLEASE BE ADVISED:

    * Signs will be posted to help guide you.

    * Local business access will be maintained during all detours and lane closures.

    * Work will occur weather permitting and will be rescheduled as necessary.

    This work is part of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing (NHHC) Corridor Improvement Program. I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program construction includes the new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, the new Route 34 Flyover Bridge, and reconstruction of the I-95 / I-91 / Route 34 Interchange.

    The Connecticut Department of Transportation is working to inform local residents of current and upcoming construction activities through announcements such as this, as well as the I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program website (www.I95NewHaven.com).
