Henry Smith (Date-of-Birth: 1-16-54), formerly of 28 Young Street, was found dead in the Quinnipiac River near Lloyd Street, at approximately 7:00 a.m. on the morning of August 2, 1997.He had blunt trauma to the head and was strangled. It is unknown if the 43 year old Smith was murdered at that location or elsewhere. Investigators believe that he may have been the victim of a possible robbery.

The information that police were able to develop early in the case did not produce any positive leads.Investigators are still aggressively working on the case and hope that the information provided by the public will assist police in piecing together the circumstances of the incident for a successful resolution.

Upon the request of New Haven State's Attorney Michael Dearington, in 1998, Governor John G. Rowland authorized a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Henry Smith.

We urge anyone with information concerning the murder of Henry Smith to contact New Haven Police and call the New Haven Police TIPS Hotline, 1-866-888-TIPS.The person or persons who provides police with the information that results in an arrest and conviction in the case will receive the $50,000 reward.
