New Haven Police are continuing their investigation of a pedestrian struck on Whalley Avenue on Thursday, March 15, 2001. The pedestrian sustained serious physical injury. The vehicle involved in the incident left the scene.
At approximately 9:50am, while riding a bicycle on Whalley Avenue near Sperry Street, Gordon Drukier, age 38, was struck by a pick-up truck, described as possibly gold in color, which was occupied by two males. Drukier was struck as he attempted to turn left onto Sperry Street. The pick-up truck was traveling west on Whalley Avenue.
After Drukier was struck, the pick-up truck stopped. The driver exited and walked toward the injured bicyclist. The driver subsequently returned to the truck, and drove away. The pick-up truck, which has front-end damage to it as a result of the impact, was last observed heading west on Whalley Avenue and possibly turning onto County Street.
Drukier sustained head and serious pelvic/hip injuries. He was taken to YNHH for treatment.
Witnesses were able to provide police with some information. Police are requesting the public 's assistance with the case.
