Investigative Services Bureau consists of plainclothes detectives supplemented by patrol officers.
This Bureau is required to assume responsibility for all felonies where follow-up investigation is required and necessary,
and misdemeanors where a follow-up investigation is deemed necessary by the detective supervisor.
Part I Category Crimes are defined by the FBI as Murder, Sexual Assault, Robbery, Aggravated Assault,Burglary, Larceny, Stolen Motor Vehicles and Arson
These are among the crimes investigated by the detectives in this Bureau.
Specialized Divisions and Units include Arson, Auto Theft, Identification, Burglary and Robbery, Drug Court Liaison, Firearms, Fraud, Intelligence, and Narcotics Enforcement.
Realizing cooperation and coordination among various law enforcement agencies is essential to reducing the level of crime and solving crimes where they do occur, the Investigation Services Bureau cooperates with other city, state, and federal agencies in investigating incidents utilizing task forces and other cooperative means.

The Identification Division is responsible for obtaining, preserving and analyzing physical evidence for eventual court presentation and for assisting in the development of techniques and procedures for effective crime scene search and criminal identification and apprehension. The Forensic Division consists of the Firearms Analysis Unit, the Crime Lab Unit, the Identification/Photography Unit and the Latent Print Unit.

The Major Crimes Division is responsible for conducting investigations of criminal activity by both individuals and organized groups. The Division includes the following: The General Investigations Unit, The Major Crimes Unit, and the Robbery Burglary Unit. The Division’s Support Group includes the Financial Crimes Unit, the Arson Unit, the Missing Persons Unit, the Firearms Unit, the Asset Forfeiture Unit, and the Sex Offender Registry Unit.

This Division is responsible for conducting investigations of criminal activity by both individuals and groups and collecting and disseminating criminal intelligence. The Vice, Narcotics, and Intelligence Division includes the following: The Narcotics Unit, the Criminal Intelligence Unit, the Shooting Task Force, The DEA Task Force, the Statewide Task Force, the ATF Urban Task Force, the US Marshalls Task Force, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
