The Family Services Division reflects the New Haven Police Department's commitment to deal with families as a whole and support the family structure. It provides an umbrella of services and strategies to improve coordination resources to strengthen the entire family. Since the Department's transition to community policing, services and police resources have been expanded to address youth and family issues. FSU emphasizes the department's focus on taking a more comprehensive approach in dealing with prevention, intervention, and education efforts to support a positive and health family environment.

The Family Services Division is made up of Juvenile Services, Missing Persons, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Bias Crime Unit, School Resource Officers, Truancy Prevention, and other youth related activities such as the Police Athletic League, Board of Young Adult Police Commissioners, Mentoring Program, Evening Coverage, and Safe Corridors.
