The New Haven Animal Shelter assists the public with animal control and safety. The Shelter is open to the public seven days a week for visits and adoptions of dogs and cats. The hours for public visits are:

Monday through Saturday - 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sunday - 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Emergency Service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Call the Animal Shelter directly for any animal that is roaming free, appears injured or rabid, or is a public nuisance.

You may purchase a dog license at the Animal Shelter.

The Animal Shelter sponsors low-cost rabies clinics.

Several local and volunteer groups aid the Animal Shelter with its adoption attempts. Partnerships have formed with the New Haven Humane Commission, Friends of the Animal Shelter, the North Shore Animal League, PetCo, and Best of Friends Animal Resort.

It also holds fundraisers to provide additional resources for emergency medical treatment outside the scope of available city resources. A concert, Wildlife Rocks, a ball, Makin' Woofie, and a Corvette Club classic car show are held annually to aid the Shelter.
