Pardee Rose Garden and Greenhouse Annual Rose Garden Walk and Plant Sale
June 16, 10:00 am to 12 noon
180 Park Road, Hamden
Friends of the Pardee Rose Garden and Greenhouse - Annual Rose Garden Walk and Plant Sale will take place on June 16, 2012, from 10 am until 12 noon. Refreshments will be available. "Please come to see one of the most beautiful Rose Gardens in the area". Matt, Park's resident horticulturalist will guide the walk, explain the history of the Pardee Rose Garden and show the many varieties of roses planted in the garden. He will also give tips to help gardeners become successful rose gardeners.
The rose garden and greenhouse are located at 180 Park Road, at the intersection of Park Drive and Farm Road in Hamden, CT. The Rose Garden, established in 1922, is 2 acres in size. The Gardens, Greenhouse and Center are part of New Haven's extensive East Rock Park and are maintained by the City of New Haven's Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees.
The restored Pardee GreenhousesFPRGG has planting sessions every Wednesday from 10:00 am until noon. Volunteers are welcome to join in the planting under the supervision of Parks' resident horticulturist Matt. The sessions involve planting of seeds and then transplanting seedlings into flats. We have plants specifically chosen for the Butterfly Garden at Lighthouse Park and other plants for specific park and public sites throughout the City of New Haven. Some plants will be available for sale at the annual walk.
Butterfly Garden flower list: Cut & Come Again Zinnia's, Tave Lavender, Mixed Marigolds, Blanket Flower, AZ Red, Russell Chandelier Lupine, Butterfly Weed, Blue Flax, Swamp Milkweed and Blackberry Lilly.
