Celebrate Edgewood Park - The Big Hike
Sunday, November 7, 11:00 to 3:00
The Big Hike will start at the Ranger Station at 1:00 PM and will ends no later than 3:30 PM. Refreshments will be provided. Rangers will demonstrate of outdoor activities: Canoeing, Kayaking, Snowshoeing, ice fishing, and mountain biking.
The Big Hike is a recruiting/outreach program along the White Trail on (mostly) the perimeter within Edgewood Park. We will start at the ranger station at 1:00 PM and proceed clockwise past the sundial, the Duck pond, the soccer field and long pond, the sensory trail, (with stop at the observation platform), the meadows below Yale / West Elm Avenues, the Iris Pond, the tennis courts / Gazebo, over the bridge, on to the rhododendron trail, past the Lilly pond, under the Edgewood Avenue bridge, left off the road before the duck pond to stay on the while trail along Edgewood Ave and back to the Ranger Station for hot cider and snacks.

Community Gardens and Greenspaces
First Annual Seed Swap at Pardee Rose Garden Saturday, November 20, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon
The First Annual Seed Swap will be held November 20, 2010, from 10 am to 12 noon at the Pardee Rose Garden, 180 Park Road, Hamden.
Harvest flower or vegetable or herb seeds bring them identified in envelopes to the Pardee Rose Garden.
Trade them with other gardeners. You will find some new, wonderful plants for your garden and others will enjoy yours. (If you don’t have any seeds to share, come to pick out some seeds we have for distribution)

Post Thanksgiving Super Hike

11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
This hike will take participants to all 4 summits of East Rock Park (Whitney, Main Summit, Indian Head and Snake Rock). Come burn off some of those extra calories with the New Haven Park Rangers.

Barnard Canoe Trip - West River on October 5, 6, and 7
As part of their science unit on watersheds, Grade 6 students and their teachers explored the West River by canoe. They learned canoeing techniques and safety from the New Haven Parks and Recreation’s Park Rangers. They also learned about the stretch of water adjacent to their school; its natural beauty and habitat, and the physical aspects of the river.
