Gardens
June is Rose Month! Our magnificent Pardee Rose Garden, containing hundreds of varieties of roses, will be coming into full bloom for everyone to enjoy this month. Come join us to enjoy the beautiful flowers at 180 Park Road in Hamden. Stop by and smell the roses.
There will be an Official Tour of the Pardee Rose Garden, June 12th at 10:00 am. The tour is part of the International Festival of Arts and Ideas.
Horticulturalist Matthew Naab will lead the tour. After the tour, Matthew will discuss the history of the greenhouses, including the recent beautiful restoration of the historic greenhouse and meeting center, and there will be a dedication ceremony for the new greenhouses.
June 2nd the Pardee Planting Group will learn how to properly plant roses. Under the expert training of Matthew Naab, resident horticulturalist at the rose garden, these volunteers will learn about planting techniques and care of roses.
Remember, that New Haven is Passionate for Perennials. If you are dividing your perennials and would like to donate some of them so that they can be planted throughout the City of New Haven by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees volunteers, please call Doreen Larson-Oboyski 203-946-2203 or doboyski@newhavenct.net

New Haven’s Community Gardeners are busy cleaning and planting their vegetable and butterfly gardens this spring. There are 48 gardens all over the city. Please check the New Haven Land Trust web site (www.newhavenlandtrust) to see the locations of the gardens
Also take a look at the beautiful Butterfly Garden at Lighthouse Point Park. The Connecticut Butterfly Association has done a wonderful job creating this garden. Many of the plants that are in the garden were grown in our greenhouse. Check out their web site - www.ctbutterfly.org.

NEW HAVEN — Looking at a starfish while hearing how it digests clams with its stomach pushed outside of its body, well, it doesn’t get much better than that for second- and third-graders.
Students from the city’s Talented and Gifted Program were enthralled on several recent days by that knowledge nugget as well as other sea creature samples from Long Island Sound when they visited the ranger station at Lighthouse Point Park.
Read more about Ranger Terry McCool's sea creature Touch Tank program at Lighthouse Point Park Ranger Station in his recent New Haven Register article.
