 Camp Cedarcrest

Camp Cedarcrest is just off Route 34 in Orange, CT, set in the woods on either side of Wepawaug River. In just moments you are transported away fromNew Haven into a setting of rustic splendor. Camp Cedarcrest offers facilities and accommodations for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Note: Camp users need a permit from the Orange Fire Marshal, Tim Smith (891-1050) to have outdoor fires except fires in the grill at the picnic pavilion.

Cabins and Tent Sites

Camp Cedarcrest has 16 cabins with cots, mattresses, light, electricity, and even some fireplaces. Cabins can be approached via the service road for easy access. For busy weekends and large groups, tent sites can accommodate up to 600 people.

Dining Hall and Kitchen

Our dining hall and kitchen are available for use, and make it easy at mealtime for large groups. The dining hall seats up to 80 people, and the kitchen is equipped with a large gas stove and griddle as well.

Entertainment and Activities Facilities

Outdoor Activities

We offer countless facilities for entertainment and activities, including:

  • Two swimming areas with a swimming pavilion.
  • Amphitheater perfect for campfires and skits.
  • Our special attraction ropes course with low-element and high-element courses.
  • Basketball and volleyball courts and even a baseball diamond
  • Arts and crafts building is great for rainy days.
  • For day-trips, our main pavilion accommodates large groups and includes electricity, benches and a charcoal pit.
  • Restrooms equipped with hot-water showers, maintained by camp staff.

History of Camp Cedarcrest

Founded in 1924 - Over 80 years of continuous service to the youth of Greater New Haven made available through the combined efforts of: The Inter-Service Clubs Committee of New Haven, Inc comprising the Kiwanis, Lions, Probus, Quota, and Rotary clubs of New Haven in cooperation with the City of New Haven Department of Parks, Recreation and Trees.

Directions

Camp Cedarcrest

From New Haven:

  1. Take Route 34 (Derby Ave) west heading toward Derby
  2. From the intersection of Derby Ave. and E.T. Grasso Boulevard note your mileage. You will travel west on Rte. 34 for about 4 miles.
  3. Landmarks you will pass along the way will be the Ravens Stadium on the left; a Nissan car dealer on the left; then Maltby Lakes and a Mobil gas station on the right.
  4. At the end of these 4 miles, you will come to the intersection with Orange Center Road.
  5. There is a gray building on the right hand corner (a flower shop).
  6. As you pass through this traffic light, immediately get into the left -hand lane (you will see a green sign on the left-hand side with says Junction 15).
  7. Immediately after this sign you will take a left -hand turn which is Mapledale Road.
    (If you come to an entrance rap for the Merritt Parkway, you have gone too far.)
    You will pass 4 houses on the right.
  8. After the houses, at the bottom of a small hill, on your right is a brown sign that says Camp Cedarcrest. Go past this sign and one house.
    The entrance to the main parking lot for the camp is immediately past the house.
    The driveway is between two white pillars on your right.

From Merrit Parkway

  1. If you are traveling on 15 South, get off at Exit 57 ( West Haven – Orange). Take you second right onto Mapledale Road.
  2. If you are traveling on 15 North, take Exit 57 ( West Haven – Orange). Turn left on Rte. 34. Take your second right onto Mapledale Road.
  3. You will pass 4 houses on your right.
  4. After the houses, at the bottom of a small hill, on your right is a brown sign that says Camp Cedarcrest. Go past this sign and one house.
    The entrance to the main parking lot for the Camp is immediately past the house.
