    Light Artists Making Places (L.A.M.P.)

Friday, October 5, 2012 the City of New Haven’s Department of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Project Storefronts, in collaboration with 9 Arts, Town Green Special Services District and Artspace, will host national, regional and local light projection artists as they join forces with the merchants of the Ninth Square to present the second annual L.A.M.P (Light Artists Making Places) event.

L.A.M.P includes over 60 artists in 20 sites within a two-block radius, each hosting a unique multi-media light installation. Artists will project illuminations, both large and small, using cutting edge technology. Ninth Square merchants and residents will also participate by shining lights in their windows. Restaurants and shops will have extended hours.

The evening begins with a 5 p.m. opening reception at Artspace, 50 Orange St., celebrating the 15th Anniversary of City-Wide Open Studio (CWOS). Also in the Ninth Square that evening, Create On9, a prelude to the L.A.M.P., which will include an open house showcasing businesses in and around the Ninth Square from 6-8 p.m. Create On9 is part of the On9 monthly first Fridays events.

At 8 p.m. the L.A.M.P headquarters, the bank building on 45 Church St., will be transformed into the Crystal Ball. The Crystal Ball performance will feature drum activated light installations by acclaimed artists Peter Yanowitz and Keith Parham. Joining them will be the legendary Bill Fisher of the Bethany music and dance group. Mr. Fisher will lead the drum circle in a ‘spirit rising’ to honor the Ninth Square’s past, present and future. The evening concludes with a 10 pm free concert by the internationally acclaimed music duo, Mates of State at Café 9, 250 State Street.

L.A.M.P. is sponsored by the City of New Haven’s Department of Economic Development and Arts, Culture and Tourism with additional support from Access Audio, ACME Furniture, Artscope, Artspace, Café 9, Onyx, Project Storefronts, The Hurley Group, Town Green Special Services District and Umbrella Arts.
