MAYOR’S YOUTH INITIATIVE SEEKING TO BUILD CAPACITY WITH GRANTS
NEW HAVEN- A goal of Mayor John DeStefano, Jr.’s youth plan for the City of New Haven is to build the capacity of community based organizations to serve more children.
To that end, the Mayor’s Youth Initiative has issued a request for proposals under which the City will provide funds directly to not-for-profit, community-based or community-serving organizations that work directly with children and youth.
“We expect to disperse a total of $100,000, in grant amounts ranging from $2,000 to $20,000,” the Mayor said. “The goal is to ensure that the city not only supports community based organizations that serve young people, but that it creates opportunities for more young people to avail themselves of these existing programs.”
The request for proposal (RFP) is available on the City's website at www.cityofnewhaven.com/Purchasing.
“In our efforts to meet the needs of youth and ensure adequate programming for young people throughout the neighborhoods, we thought it important to provide support to community based or community serving organizations that currently provide programs for young people. However, we have one stipulation, and that is that the grants go directly to serving additional young people. “
Successful applicants will be funded for a one year period and will be eligible for a second year of support, if funding is available. The grants can be made in areas such as youth development, health care, education, job training, counseling, violence prevention, recreation and cultural arts.
A Letter of Intent must be received by April 10, 2007 by 4:00PM to The Bureau of Purchasing, 200 Orange Street, New Haven, CT 06511.
