Metropolitan Business Academy Dedication
There will be a ceremony on Thursday, June 3rd at 4 p.m. to dedicate the recently completed Metropolitan Business Academy located at 115 Water Street. Metropolitan Business Academy is the 33rd project to be completed as part of the Citywide School Construction Program.
Celebrate National Trails Day
Saturday, June 5th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., join the New Haven Park Rangers for a Celebration of the West Rock Nature Center as part of National Trails Day. Enjoy Bird Walks, Hikes, Arts & Crafts, Reptiles & Amphibians, Archery, Stream Exploration and more at the West Rock Nature Center. The International Festival of Arts & Ideas will kick off on June 12th and will continue through June 26th. The Festival is a great opportunity for families to enjoy world-class entertainment, cultural and learning programs right here in New Haven. Tuesday, June 1st and 2nd from 10 to 11 a.m.–High School in the Community students have created an adaptation of Shakespeare's play “As You Like It.” They will be performing for their own peers, as well as peers from Sound, Hillhouse, Co-op, Troup, Kathleen Brennan, Beecher, Jepson, and New Horizons. They will be performing on June 1&2 from 10am - 11am as well at the Yale Center for British Art., 1080 Chapel Street.
Wednesday, June 2nd at 9:30 a.m. and June 3rd at 6 p.m. – A student performance featuring the Wexler-Grant Band and Choruses. It will be held at Wexler-Grant Community School, 55 Foote Street, New Haven, Auditorium.
Wednesday, June 2nd from 6 to 7:30 p.m. –End of the Year Student Presentations and Ice Cream Social at Celentano Museum Academy, 400 Canner Street, New Haven. Each classroom will be showcasing inquiry-based projects and work that the students have completed throughout the year. An Ice Cream Social will be held at 5:30 pm.
Wednesday and Thursday, June 2nd and 3rd at 6 p.m. –Choir Concert at Cooperative Arts and Humanities, Coop Main Stage, 177 College Street, New Haven. Tickets are $5/ $7 and can be purchased at Coop 11:00 am to 1:00 pm or Shubert theatre 9:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Thursday, June 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. –Community Screening of 'Food, Inc.' and Local Food Celebration at Hillhouse High School, 480 Sherman Parkway, New Haven. Food, Inc., a feature-length documentary by director Robert Kenner, lifts the veil on our nation's food industry, exposing a system controlled by international corporations that prioritize profit over the health and safety of consumers. Also featuring: 3,000 Miles, A documentary by New Haven youth from The Color of Words. The screening will be followed by a healthy dinner and food demos by Claire's Corner Copia, Elaine's Healthy Choice, and Hillhouse Culinary Arts students. Friday, June 4th at 9:30 a.m.--Annual Awards Ceremony at Riverside Education Academy, 560 Ella Grasso Blvd., New Haven. This annual ceremony traditionally honors the students who have touched Riverside's “family,” and this year, 15 parents of students who have been at REA for their entire 4 years of high school will also be recognized for their tireless support of their children.
Friday, June 4th at 2 p.m.—Students and staff members will celebrate academic excellence at their 3rd marking period academic Reception at Davis Street Magnet School, 130 Orchard Street, New Haven, Rotunda I. Parents will be in attendance as their children receive their awards.
Friday, June 4th at 7 p.m.—BRAMS’s annual Dance Showcase will be presented by dance students in grades 5-8 at Betsy Ross Arts Magnet School, 150 Kimberly Avenue, New Haven.
