As we approach Christmas and the New Year, I find myself with little need to be reminded of life’s blessings. For twenty years, I have had the joy of serving as my hometown’s Mayor. Every day in ways big and small, I have been part of the life of New Haven’s people: their celebrations and their sorrows, their accomplishments and their frustrations.
It has been amazing! So I'd simply like to say thank you.
Thank you for the incredible experience of a lifetime! I look forward to all the years ahead, but will always treasure my twenty years as Mayor, and the ten years I spent working for the City before that.
I offer my prayers and good wishes for Mayor-Elect Toni Harp. She is a good person and will do a fine job for our City.
And to the people of New Haven, what a treasure you are. Let us look forward to a future where we all continue working to create a just and fair City, an open and welcoming City – a City where we seek meaning and purpose in making one another whole.
All my best,
John DeStefano, Jr.
