October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As a community, it is important that we work together to raise awareness and education about domestic violence and how it affects individuals and families. On October 1st, I encourage residents to join me in attending an awareness event hosted by the Greater New Haven Domestic Violence Task Force at 1 p.m. in the 2nd floor Atrium of City Hall, 165 Church Street. At this event, representatives from Task Force agencies will discuss the issue of domestic violence, including teen violence and elder abuse.
Here’s what else is happening in New Haven:
Champions On and Off the Field: Vote for Hillhouse High School
United Way of New Haven has submitted a video for the Live United Story Contest featuring the Hillhouse High School football team. Over their summer break, over 40 members of the Hillhouse football team participated in United Way’s Days of Action, assisting the Neighborhood Housing Services of New Haven in a demolition project of two homes in Newhallville. New Haven Health Survey
This fall, New Haven outreach workers will be visiting residents and asking you to participate in an optional survey about your health, diet, exercise, tobacco use and feelings on safety in your community. These surveys are anonymous and the information gathered will be used to better understand the health needs in our community. To learn more about these surveys and why it is important to participate, I encourage residents to attend a press conference that will kick-off this campaign on Friday, October 2nd at 11 a.m. on the 2nd floor Atrium of City Hall, 165 Church Street.
2009 City-Wide Open Studios Weekend
This weekend is Open Studios Weekend, an opportunity for local artists to open their doors to the public and share their art with the community. ArtSpace will be kicking-off this event with a reception on Friday, October 2nd at 6 p.m. at 50 Orange Street. For more information, please visit: www.cwos.org.
Mayor’s Night In
On the first Tuesday of every month, I hold Mayor’s Night In at City Hall. This event is an opportunity for residents to meet with me to discuss you your questions, concerns, and suggestions for our City. I encourage residents to stop by Tuesday, October 6th at 5 p.m.
Is someone you know interested in receiving the Mayor's Monday Message? To join this list, please send your name and email address to: firstname.lastname@example.org. An opportunity may exist down the line to receive messages specific to your neighborhood. For this purpose, in your email, please tell us what ward you live in.
The Mayor's Monday Message list is not shared with any outside groups and is used solely for the purpose of delivering timely information about issues and events in the City from the Mayor's office to your inbox.
I hope you have a happy and healthy week!
Very truly yours,
John DeStefano, Jr.
