With the recent kick-off of the Festival of Arts and Ideas, summer in New Haven is off to a great start. Over the course of the next two weeks, the Festival will be providing us with world-class entertainment and important cultural as well as learning opportunities for the whole family. Honoring High School Seniors
This Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Sound School, I’ll join Dr. Mayo in honoring outstanding seniors, especially those who have overcome significant odds, to finish high school and graduate with distinction. This news conference will spotlight a student graduate from every high school and a variety of inspirational stories.
Mayor’s Night Out
Mayor’s Night Out will take place this Wednesday at Bella Vista at 7p.m. Join the heads of the City’s departments and agencies and me in discussing issues that impact Ward 11. Our next Mayor’s Night Out is scheduled for August 20th at Edgewood School for residents of wards 23-30. I look forward to seeing you there.

TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 10 A.M., VINCENT MAURO SCHOOL, 130 ORCHARD ST: Alex Howard, who has a student in 2nd grade @ Vincent Mauro Interdistrict Magnet School, is a member of the famous Harlem Globe Trotter Basketball Team. He is a New Haven native & will be doing a motivational presentation for grades 5-6.

TUESDAY, JUNE 17, 2008, 2:45 P.M.: DAVIS STREET MAGNET SCHOOL, 35 Davis Street, The school has been raising funds to send to Haiti, a French speaking country. As an interschool project the French Honor Society at Career is donating $100 to help support the efforts of Davis school. French teacher, Meredith Magenheim and a representative from the French Honor Society at Hill Regional Career High School will present Davis school with a check.
JUNE 17-19, 2008, 6:00 P.M.: WEXLER GRANT SCHOOL, 55 Foote Street, The drama club presents “Happy Feet.”
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 5:00 P. M. COLUMBUS SCHOOL, 69 Grand Avenue, Swing-Out Party, Columbus is saying good bye to the Strong Building and fundraising for next year’s programming. Refreshments will be served- come for a little taste of Hispanic Culture, Arte Inc sponsors.
