I hope you’re enjoying a happy and healthy holiday.
City Hall will be closed for Christmas but the next day – Tuesday – it will be open and we’ll be holding a Kwanzaa celebration in the atrium at 5:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!
The beginning of the New Year is often a time when people commit to leading healthier lifestyles and this year the City of New Haven wants to help. So, we’re launching a new Employee Wellness Program that will not only encourage people to be healthier but will help control medial costs for the city and taxpayers.
The innovative program - administered by health experts from St. Raphael’s Hospital – will introduce all city employees to professionals who will conduct voluntary health assessments and provide follow-ups as appropriate. By helping employees make smart decisions about diet, exercise, and lifestyle the hope is we’ll be able to increase workplace efficiency and significantly lower health care costs.
Information sessions for city employees will begin the first week of January.
The City of New Haven also wants to help people be financially healthy and that’s why we’re excited about offering free income tax preparation and filing for low-income taxpayers. This is the 6th year the New Haven Economic Security Coalition will help residents file their taxes, complete the Earned Income Tax Credit forms, and avoid paying large sums to private preparers. In addition, residents are offered free advice on how to become financially literate. This includes everything from opening a checking account to buying a home.
In order to make this all happen though, and returns thousands of dollars to hard working families, we need volunteers. No experience is necessary! If you have questions or want more information contact Esther Brown at FamilyWealth@newhavenct.net, Rick Kaiser at email@example.com, or Emily Byrne at firstname.lastname@example.org.
That’s it for this week’s message. Have a great holiday!
Very truly yours,
John DeStefano, Jr.
