    Office Of The Mayor
    Dear Friends

Our City is full of people who consistently volunteer to make it the wonderful place it is. The work of these individuals often goes unrecognized, so I would like to take the opportunity this week offers to mention a few of them.

Today marks the end of the tax season. However this tax season left you feeling, it was a better tax season for many low-income New Haven residents, who had their taxes filed for free by volunteers from our city. This free tax preparation service, called VITA, helped residents claim refunds and tax credits.

The heart of this program is volunteers who gave their time to help our hardworking low-income residents. I would like to give a heartfelt thanks to the volunteers who made the program successful yet again this year.

Health Matters Tip of the Week:

Protect your skin. Enjoy the skin you're in, and protect it. You don’t need a tan to be beautiful, and you definitely don’t need a sunburn. Just a few serious sunburns can increase your risk for skin cancer later in life. Make sure you protect yourself from the harmful effects of UV rays. Avoid indoor and outdoor tanning, and use a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher.

    Green Tip of the Week:

Now that the weather is warming up, considering using a clothesline or clothes stand to dry your clothes rather than a dryer. You will save money while reducing your reliance on fossil fuels!
