Pilot Pen Tennis Casting Call
Pilot Pen Tennis will host open auditions in the second annual Pilot Pen Tennis Casting Call on Wednesday, June 10 at the Shubert Theatre. They will be selecting talented children, 12 years of age and younger, to perform ďAmerica the BeautifulĒ at the 2009 Pilot Pen Tennis tournament August 21-29. Auditions will be held in front of a panel of celebrity judges. This partnership between the Shubert Theatre and Pilot Pen Tennis will open the Theatreís annual S.N.A.P. (Shubert Night at A Performance) program, a community outreach initiative benefiting New Havenís neighborhoods by offering accessible cultural, arts and entertainment events to the community.
The City of New Havenís Department of Youth will launch the New Haven Youth Map at the Wilson Branch Library on Tuesday, June 9 at 4 p.m. The New Haven Youth Map is a valuable tool for parents, youth and community organizations, as it provides residents with a direct connection to youth organizations and their community offerings. Bring your own bag while shopping instead of using plastic bags. Americans use 380 billion plastic bags per year, often for only a few minutes until they are discarded. As many as 100 million of these bags become litter each year, creating environmental and aesthetic problems.

End of Year Celebration with Jewish Coalition for Literacy
In a reading partnership with the Jewish Coalition for Literacy, 54 students will come together to celebrate a successful school year and share some special stories with their reading buddies and special friends. This event will take place Monday, June 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Bernard Magnet School. For more information, please contact Cheryl Coppa at 691-3530.
Spring Art Show and Musical Review
On Tuesday, June 9, High School in the Community located at 145 Water Street will hold its Spring Art Show and Musical Review, an impressive exhibit of musical performances and art displays. Doors open at 7 p.m. and music begins promptly at 7:30 p.m.
American Red Cross Blood Drive
Also at High School in the Community, an AP Biology class is sponsoring an all day American Red Cross Blood Drive. Their goal of 30 donors has already been surpassed by the 70 students and staff members signed up and ready to go. The blood drive coincides with the HSC Bi-annual Fun Run and Picnic in the Parking Lot with the goal to encourage health, fitness, and nutritious food choices.
