Parent University is coming to your neighborhood! Parent University offers free workshops and seminars for parents of New Haven Public School students on a variety of topics that are helpful for parents and beneficial in helping parents support their children.
All workshops are free and will offer lunch or dinner; free childcare (for evening workshops only); Spanish translation and free youth programming by Parks & Recreation. The New Haven Police Department (NHPD) will begin recruiting new officers on June 10th. For three weeks, from June 10th through June 28th , those who are interested in becoming a New Haven police officer will be able to apply online at www.Policeapp.com Applicants must be U.S. citizens who will be 21 years of age by December 31, 2013.
Prior to the application period, the New Haven Police Academy will be holding several informational sessions that will thoroughly explain the recruitment process and provide an opportunity for prospective applicants to ask any questions they may have. Individuals who are interested in applying to become a police officer are strongly urged to attend one of these informational sessions.
All informational sessions will be held at Gateway Community College, 20 Church Street Room N100A on the following dates:
• Thursday May 23rd, 4pm-7pm
• Tuesday May 28th, 4pm-7pm
• Thursday May 30th from 4pm-7pm.
There will also be an Open House and informational session held at the New Haven Police Academy located at 710 Sherman Parkway on Saturday, May 18th, from 10:00am- 2:00 PM.

This Friday is Bike to Work and School Day in New Haven!
Join dozens of other cyclists for National Bike to Work (and School) Day this Friday, May 17, from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Free breakfast will be served at Pitkin Plaza in front of the Devil’s Gear Bike Shop, 151 Orange St., a sponsor of this month’s breakfast, in collaboration with Elm City Cycling. And at 8:30 a.m., a short program will feature Director of Transportation, Traffic and Parking Jim Travers, who will discuss some exciting new bike-related developments, and Liam Brennan, a member of Elm City Cycling’s board of directors, who will explain the organization’s priorities in its 2013 Bike Plan.
