New Haven Proudly Hosts the International Festival of Arts and Ideas|
The 19th annual International Festival of Arts and Ideas is here to stay through Saturday, June 28th. New Haven has once again become host to hundreds of talented musicians, artists, dancers, thinkers, and actors, as well as nearly 150,000 attendees from around the city, state, and region. Some of the most inspirational and engaging art and discussion in the country will take place over the15-day period, and the City is proud to play such an integral role in the organization and execution of this world-class event.
The two-week series will open with a concert performance headlined by Grammy-winning vocalist and pianist Lalah Hathaway and Ruben Studdard, the winner of the second season of American Idol, followed by an impressive lineup of programs and performances, including the U.S. premiere of Scottish playwright David Greig's new work The Events; Montreal-based circus company 7 Fingers' off-Broadway hit Traces; jazz legend Dianne Reeves performing with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra; La Santa Cecila with Nation Beat; Martha Redbone Roots Project with music from Cry You One; country artist Brandy Clark with Bronze Radio Return; downtown New York theater ensemble Elevator Repair Service's Arguendo; and much more. As usual, over 80 percent of this year's programming is free and open to the public.
New Haven will be bustling with activity, both cultural and economic; we are excited to welcome the Festival in their celebration of arts and culture. I hope that you will join me in attending the Festival to see some of the greatest thinkers and performers of our time.
