MAYOR DESTEFANO AND LT. REDDING ANNOUNCE THURSDAY NIGHT POLICE RAIDS
(5/25/2007) Four Search Warrant Executions Yield Arrests, Narcotics, Cash and Firearms
NEW HAVEN- At a press conference today, Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. and Lt. Patrick Redding announced that several raids took place yesterday evening resulting in 14 arrests. These narcotics and firearm arrests were conducted by the New Haven Police Department in partnership with the State Police through the New Haven Initiative Task Force.
“I commend our police department and their partnership with State Police for their success in last night’s execution of 4 search warrants,” said DeStefano. “Last night was an example of what we can achieve when we work together. Our officers are taking drugs and guns off of our streets and working toward a safer summer for our entire community.”
Police executed three separate search warrants, the first at a bar on Pearl Street, the second at home on Blatchley Avenue in the Fair Haven neighborhood and the third at a home on Downing Avenue. A combined seizure from all three locations included 78 grams of cocaine, six ounces of marijuana, nearly $10,000 in cash, a 22 rile and drug paraphernalia.
Also on Thursday, police executed a search warrant for a home on Adam Clayton Street that resulted in the seizure of two handguns, $5,500 in cash, drug packaging and a small amount of crack cocaine. Seven arrests were made at that time.
"I'm very proud of the good work being done in New Haven as a result of the partnership between the NHPD officers and the state task force members,” said Police Chief Francisco Ortiz. “This week alone, they have been responsible for getting three guns and a significant amount of drugs off the street."
