TOMORROW IS LAST DAY OF POLICE RECRUITMENT DRIVE
(9/20/2007) Candidates have until Friday to Turn in Completed Applications
NEW HAVEN- The New Haven Police Department is preparing to wrap up this year’s recruitment drive. Applications will be accepted up until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 21st. Candidates may submit applications and related materials at New Haven Police headquarters at 1 Union Avenue, Human Resources at 200 Orange Street 1st floor and at the NHPD Training Academy at 710 Sherman Parkway.
Written examinations, the next step in the applications process, are expected to take place in October with the physical agility and oral examinations to follow throughout the month of November. Upon certification of the candidates list, projected for December, background investigations should take place in January through February. A new class generated from this process is anticipated to enter into the Police Academy in April of 2008.
“I encourage men and women with dedication and a strong interest in making a difference in the community to consider applying to be a New Haven Police officer,” said Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. “Serving this City as a police officer is something to be proud of. We’re looking to increase the size of our force and have more officers in the community on patrol.”
This new recruitment campaign comes quickly on the heels of the City’s last successful drive that graduated 27 new officers from the Police Academy earlier this month. Next spring’s class will be the 14th since the inception of Community Policing in New Haven and the 14th since Mayor DeStefano first took office. The current class is expected to graduate in September after which they will begin field training with experienced officers.
