EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, MORRIS COVE RESIDENTS ARE PERMITTED TO RETURN TO THEIR HOMES

(8/28/2011) CITY TO IMMEDIATELY BEGIN CLEAN-UP EFFORT

(New Haven) – Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. has lifed an evacuation order for the Morris Cove neighborhood. Residents may return to their homes. The City is immediately commencing cleanup operations.

“While only modest property damaged occurred across the city, a significant number of trees are down obstructing roadways and taking down power lines, said Mayor DeStefano. “Live wires may be down in the roadway and residents should not approach any downed power lines. The city will be coordinating with the United Illuminating Company until the lines are fixed. Residents should remain in their homes and stay of city streets for the rest of the day.”

The Mayor continued, “The cleanup effort will exstensive and require the coroporation and cordination of City residents. Residents should exercise common sense when leaving their homes and should contact the City’s emergency operations center at 203-946-8221 with any questions.”
