MADD'S YOUTH IN ACTION PROGRAM TEAMS UP WITH NEW HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

(3/26/2009) NEW HAVEN—Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Connecticut and New Haven’s Teens Breaking Barriers will join efforts on Thursday March 26, 2009 and Monday March 30, 2009, as they participate in MADD sponsored Youth In Action Roll Call Briefing at the New Haven Police Department, 1 Union Ave, New Haven, CT 06519.

Youth In Action is a national program of youth-led, community-based teams that work toward changing the social climate that suggests underage drinking is acceptable for those under the minimum drinking age of 21. Teens Breaking Barriers will present a letter of appreciation to New Haven police officers during their Thursday 7:00PM and Monday 3:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. shift changes. The students will be thanking the officers for the work they do in the community to enforce and support the underage drinking laws, as well as their efforts to stop drunk driving.

New Haven’s Teens Breaking Barriers is a youth leadership group supported by New Haven Coalition to reduce Underage Drinking. This group was established by the City’s Commission on Substance Abuse Policy and Prevention to help combat efforts to reduce underage drinking. This group participates in a variety of activities including attending MADD CT annual youth leadership Power Camp, holding community forums and having information available at citywide health fairs and events. The group will also be holding a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday April 2, 2009 to address the community on how they can join forces to prevent underage drinking in New Haven.

“These students from New Haven Teens Breaking Barriers are extremely dedicated to MADD’s mission to prevent underage drinking,” said Krebs. “Their efforts will help their community become a safer place to live.”
