NEW HAVEN POLICE INTRODUCE PROSTITUTION DETERRENCE INITIATIVE

    (8/15/2008) DEAR JOHN: YOU’RE ARRESTED!”

FIRST STING OPERATION YIELDS 12 ARRESTS

NEW HAVEN- New Haven Police kicked off a prostitution-deterrence initiative this week with a sting operation in the City’s Fair Haven neighborhood. Thursday night’s operation yielded 12 arrests of 11 were charged with patronizing a prostitute and one was charged with aiding and abetting patronizing a prostitute. Undercover officers were a major component of the sting. As a part of the process, eight vehicles were seized in conjunction with the 12 arrests.

Arrested for patronizing a prostitute were:

    1. Joseph Anthony Daddio of East Haven, DOB: 8/14/47

    2. Michael Stefania of Branford, DOB: 9/3/75

    3. Segundo Naranjo of New Haven, DOB: 10/28/80

    4. Darryl Tracey Williams of Bridgeport, DOB: 12/20/61

    5. Jamie Albuja of New Haven, DOB: 9/27/62

    6. Jose Dippini of New Haven, DOB: 11/6/66

    7. Genaro Piscil of New Haven, DOB: 2/12/87

    8. Mohammed Faroqi of Hamden, DOB: 8/7/86

    9. Miguel Diaz of New Haven, DOB: 9/9/80

    10. Augusto Collado of New Haven, DOB: 8/26/65

    11. Lucas Paceto of New Haven, DOB: 9/5/72

Arrested for aiding and abetting was 21-year-old Victor Reyes of New Haven.

“Of those arrested, only four individuals resided in or near the Fair Haven neighborhood demonstrating that johns are traveling from other communities to take part in illegal and disruptive activities in someone else’s backyard,” said Police Chief James Lewis. “There’s no reason why women and children have to fear walking in their neighborhoods because they are going to be accosted by men looking to patronize prostitutes.”

This is only the beginning for this initiative which will soon be launched citywide. Officers will begin to target known areas of prostitution throughout New Haven and regularly publicize the names and faces of “johns” in an effort to deter all prostitution activity. Information on “johns” will be posted on the Department’s website and made available to the media. Residents are encouraged to contact the New Haven Police department with information on known prostitution activity in their communities.
