360 STATE STREET LAUNCHES APPLICATION PROCESS FOR WORKFORCE HOUSING PROGRAM
(7/19/2010) (NEW HAVEN)- At a news conference in the leasing office of the 360 State Street Development, The City of New Haven, Becker and Becker Associates and Bozzuto Management announced that applications are now being accepted for 360 State Street's workforce housing program. The 500-unit high-rise residential community at the corners of State and Chapel streets has 50 set aside units including 20 affordable Section 8 Project Based Voucher units, 27 workforce housing units, and 3 units reserved for people at or below 150% of the area median income.
The brand new residential community has a host of amenities including a rooftop terrace with swimming pool, sundeck and gardens, a 24-hour attended lobby, and 6th floor fitness center, clubroom and library. All apartments have stone countertops, stainless steel appliances, dishwashers and washer/dryers.
The 27 workforce studio apartments will be available to qualified applicants at below market rate rents. The rent for these apartments with all utilities included is currently $1,084.
Residents earning approximately 80% to 120% of the area median income are eligible to apply. Individuals earning $43,360 to $67,368; and two-person households with incomes ranging from $43,360 to $76,992 can apply. For people with incomes less than the minimum, guarantors will be considered. Applications will be scored based on the State Fair Housing Regulations point system.

The 20 affordable Section 8 Project Based Voucher units tenant selection will be provided from the Housing Authority of New Haven’s existing waiting list. These wait list individuals will be go through the standard Housing Authority of New Haven vetting process and then be presented to Bozzuto Management for further eligibility.
“Bringing more affordable, workforce and market rate housing to New Haven’s downtown has been a priority of the City of New Haven,” said Kelly Murphy, Economic Development Administrator.
The location of the new apartment building is in walking distance multiple employers, public transportation and the area’s rich variety of restaurants in downtown. The building follows smart growth principles and reduces reliance on cars. The transit-oriented location is part of what makes the building affordable.
