The New Haven Jazz Festival’s dynamic duo is back to support the 25th anniversary

(6/20/2006) The New Haven Jazz Festival gets ready to take front and center stage this summer on the City’s historic Green for its 25th year—thanks to the continued support of Citizens Bank and Casey Family Services.

For 25 years the City of New Haven has hosted one of the country’s longest-running free outdoor music celebrations. And since free festivals are becoming harder and harder to find, it’s even more important for the Jazz Fest to be backed by local, community-oriented organizations like Citizens Bank and Casey Family Services.

“New Haven is lucky to have leading businesses like Citizens Bank and Casey Family Services to generously support the Jazz Festival each year. Their continued sponsorship allows our City to host the best free jazz festival in New England,” said Mayor John DeStefano Jr.

“We’re proud to be the title sponsor of this year’s Jazz Festival, celebrating its 25th anniversary. Like the Jazz Festival, Citizens Bank has had a long history of being part of New Haven’s cultural and economic renaissance. As a cornerstone of New Haven’s summer festivities, the Citizens Bank New Haven Jazz Fest is a wonderful event that we have enjoyed supporting for the past six years,” said Richard Barry, President and CEO of Citizens Bank of Connecticut. “We congratulate the City on 25 years of providing world-class entertainment to our neighbors. And I look forward to the next 25 years.”

And back to join Citizens Bank is Casey Family Services-—ready for their fifth successive year as the presenting sponsor of the Festival.

“The Jazz Fest is a perfect fit for Casey Family Services. Our mission is to help children, families and communities grow stronger together. And with award-winning, free

performers on the Green, wonderful jazz events in many parks and Neighborhood Music School’s Jazz Camp—the Jazz Fest is all about people of the community coming together to share in the experience of great music,” said Raymond L. Torres, Executive Director of Casey Family Services.

Because of the continued partnerships of many New Haven businesses, as well as support from “Friends of the Festival” and the City of New Haven, over the past quarter century the Jazz Fest has brought many greats to Green—including Ray Charles, Celia Cruz, Arturo Sandoval and Isaac Hayes. And with Citizens Bank and Casey Family Services at the helm, the 25th anniversary promises to be even better—complete with more headliners including Jonny Lang, Dave Brubeck and Kool & the Gang, second stage live performances, a special effects display and even more great local jazz performers.

“We are so thrilled to have both Citizens Bank and Casey Family Services back to support our 25th anniversary. And because of their help we’ve planned even more live jazz events during the Festival with the addition of Jazz Brunches, Jazz in the Clubs, Jazz at the Movies and the Jazz Dinner Cruise. Not to mention we’ve signed twice as many headliners than ever before—this year we’ll have six instead of three,” said Barbara Lamb, Director of New Haven Festivals, Inc.

But of course, every great production needs an all-star cast. And this year AT&T, think creative group and New Haven Register are lending their support for all of the Jazz Fest’s concerts on the Green. Empower New Haven is continuing to bring jazz into the neighborhood by supporting the ever-popular Jazz in the Parks. Finally, IKEA and the

rounds out the team as an individual concert partner, supporting the night of Dancing under the Stars on the Green. The Jazz Fest is also pleased to recognize a supporting grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism.

Not to mention, countless businesses—including Hull’s, Entenmann’s, CHOW, The Wine Thief, IKEA and the New Haven Parking Authority, as well as many local downtown restaurants, bars and nightclubs—supporting the Festival with generous in-kind donations of everything from beverages, to spray-paint, to delicious food, to discount

parking. And the New Haven Advocate is teaming with the Jazz Fest as the summer media partner.

So get ready for a 25th anniversary that will go down in history. Because with this dynamic duo and the continued city-wide support behind the celebrations-—you’re promised a Jazz Festival you will never forget.
