Project Storefronts, now in its third year of operation, is an award-winning, innovative program that combines arts and creativity with entrepreneurship and economic development. The goal of Project Storefronts is to support the city’s creative community by providing entrepreneurial minded artists with the space and resources needed to test the marketing viability of their business ideas. Turning empty storefronts into active spaces also helps drive foot traffic into underutilized areas and drive people to nearby businesses, helping to get the vacant space permanently rented.
Project Storefronts is one component of the 9th Square Innovation District, which is also home to the co-working spaces The Grove and The Bourse and Make Haven, which bills itself as a gathering place and workshop space for creators, tinkerers and dreamers. On the first Friday of each month, the 9th Square hosts an “On 9” event that features special pricing on events at restaurants, art galleries and shops.
