MAYOR DESTEFANO AND POLICE CHIEF ORTIZ ANNOUNCE NEW APPOINTMENT FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT’S INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE UNIT

    (3/29/2007)

New Haven: Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. and Police Chief Francisco Ortiz are announcing today that Lt. Patrick Redding will serve as Officer in Charge of the police department’s Investigative Service Unit (ISU). Redding, a 21 year veteran of the department, leaves his post as officer in charge of the Internal Values and Ethics Unit to lead the ISU. In 2000, Redding was promoted to Lieutenant after four years in the department’s juvenile services unit.

Sergeant Lisa Dadio will now serve in the second leadership position under Lt. Redding in the ISU. “Taken together these two represent a strong team,” said DeStefano. Dadio, a 15 year veteran of the department, has served as a detective working in narcotics investigation and within the bureau of identification. In July 2003, Dadio became the acting officer in charge of the Family Services Unit.

At the same time, the State’s Attorney has made arrangements for Chief Investigator Robert Lawlor to spend approximately 20 hours per week working with Redding on establishing procedures to ensure a strong working relationship with prosecutors.

“As demonstrated yesterday when officers took guns and three bad guys off the streets, men and women of this department put themselves at risk everyday to serve the people of New Haven. Through these appointments, the Chief ensures they will be well lead to continue great service,” said DeStefano.

Redding will report to Assistant Chief Herman Badger who himself led the ISU from June 2003 through August 2006. Redding has completed extensive training in best practices preparing him for this position. “I have complete confidence in Lt. Redding. I think having someone to lead our Investigative Service Unit with experience in Internal Values and Ethics is important at this time” said Ortiz.

Further reorganization will take place within the Internal Values and Ethics Unit. An announcement about new leadership and structure for that unit will be made in the near future.
