THREE VICTIMS IN SUNDAY NIGHT SHOOTING
(7/2/2007) NEW HAVEN- Shortly after 10 p.m. yesterday, 2 adults and one child were shot on West Street in the City’s Hill neighborhood. The shooter may have shot as many as 6 bullets during yesterday’s incident. Keyshawn Webb, 9 years of age was shot in the stomach while inside a home on West Street while 33-year-old Joseph Robinson was shot in the jaw standing on the house’s porch. Eighteen year-old Cedric Braswell, apparently the shooter’s intended target, was shot in clavicle area. Robinson was treated and released last night while Webb and Braswell remain in the hospital in stable condition.
“This appears to have been a neighborhood dispute,” said Assistant Chief of Police Herman Badger. “We have received community cooperation and are proceeding with an investigation to solve this crime as soon as possible.”
Under the direction of district manager Lt. Joe Streeto, police have had significant presence in the Hill South neighborhood including several officers on walking beats. Recently, Streeto worked with the Livable City Initiative to trim trees for better visibility and implement a “Light the Night” program in the neighborhood which involved the installation of 400 and 1,000 watt light bulbs on street corners to better illuminate the area.
