NEW HAVEN POLICE PROMOTES 20 NEW DETECTIVES
(2/12/2008) NEW HAVEN- In a ceremony at City Hall, Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. and the New Haven Police Department promoted 20 officers to the rank of Detective today. The 20 new detectives, who were all previously assigned to patrol duties, will now undergo two weeks of training before reporting to their new assignments.
Weve made some great strides in the last few months making promotions across the board at all rank levels. Bringing in these 20 new detectives completes this goal of filling a number of vacancies in supervisory positions, said Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. All of these promotions represent strong leadership within the Department and infinite possibilities for the new year.
Police Chief Francisco Ortiz congratulated the new detectives and urged them to set examples for other officers and the community. I am proud of your accomplishments and look forward to the great work you will perform as detectives, said Ortiz. As you take on these new roles, remember your commitment to New Haven residents. Strive to serve as role models and continue to work to earn the trust of the community every day.
The 20 new detectives are:
Dietrich Hernandez, hired in 1995, experience as: a Field Training Officer, bike patrol and as a patrol officer in Newhallville- East Rock. Hernandez has received a Certificate of Commendation and an Award for Outstanding Contribution Unit Citation (ID-NET).
Wayne Bullock, hired in 2000, experience in Narcotics Unit and Family Services. Bullock has received two Certificates of Commendation, a letter of commendation and an Award of Merit.
Yessennia Olivera, hired in 2001, experience in Family Services (Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Units) and as a Patrol Officer in the East Shore District. Olivera has received a Certificate of Commendation.
Wendy Barrett, hired in 1989, experience in Narotics Unit and Urban Violence Task Force. Barrett has received two Medals of Honor and two Certificates of Commendation.
Rose Turney, hired in 1995, experience in Narcotics Unit, Family Services and as a Field Training Officer. Turney has received a Unit Citation (ID-NET) and a Unit Citation for Field Training Officers.
Matthew Deleo, hired in 2002, experience in the Narcotics Division and Family Services. Deleo has received five awards for outstanding services and one Letter of Commendation.
Robert Criscuolo, hired in 2000, experience as a Patrol Officer in Newhallville and in the Street Interdicion Unit as well as the Statewide narcotics Task Force. Criscuolo has received three Letters of Recognition and a Unit Citation for his work in the Statewide Narcotics Task Force.
Christopher Perrone, hired in 1997, experience as a Patrol Officer in the East Shore District, as a member of the Statewide Cooperative Crime Control Task Force and the Statewide Narcotics Task Force/New Haven Initiative. Perrone has received an Award of Merit, a Certificate of Commendation and Letters of Recognition.
Stephan Torquati, hired in 2001, experience in the Narcotics Division, with ID-NET and as a Patrol Officer in the Dwight/Chapel District. Torquati has received a Letter of Recognition and a Unit Citation (ID-NET).
Elisa Tuozzoli, hired in 1998, experience as a Patrol Officer in the Dwight/Chapel District, a Certified Field Training Officer, ID-NET, Certified member of Connecticut Crisis Intervention Team and the Narcotics Enforcement Unit. Tuozzoli has received the New Haven Department of Police Commendable Service Award, Citizen Letter of Recognition, Letter of Recognition from the Senior Assistant State Attorney, Letters of Recognition, Officer of the Year for the Chapel/West Special Service District and a Unit Citation (ID-NET).
Wilfredo Cruz, hired in 1997, experience as a Patrol Officer in the Hill North District as well as in the Narcotic Unit, Warrant Fugitive Task Force, Family Services Unit, FBI Gang Drug Task Force, ID-NET and the Sexual Assault Unit. Cruz has received the 1999 Police Officer of the Year Award, six letters of recommendation, four Certificates of Commendation, a Medal of Merit, two Unit Citations and the Bravery Award (Jamaican Police Officer Association).
Samuel Brown, hired in 1996, experience in the Narcotics Task Force. Brown has received four Commendations, three Letters of Recognition, a Letter of Appreciation, recognition for Outstanding Contributions and a Unit Citation (Narcotics Task Force).
Manuella Vensel, hired in 2002, experience in the Family Services Division and Burglary/Robbery Unit.
James Grasso, hired in 1992, experience as a Patrol Officer in the Hill District, Natcotics Unit, Motorcycle Unit and Arson Squad. Grasso has received a Marksmanship Award and Excellence in Training Award.
Scott Branfuhr, hired in 1989, experience in the Police Bicycle Unit. Branfuhr has received a Certificate of Commendation.
Bridget Brosnahan, hired in 2000, experience in the Family Services Division.
Hollie Tutrani, hired in 1995, experience in the OIC Animal Control and Family Services Division. Tutrani received a Block Watch Award.
Omaida Nieves, hired in 2000, experience as a Patrol Officer in the Fair Haven District, in the Narcotics Unit, Family Services Division, Internal Values and Ethics and the Property Room (Evidence Intake and Asset Forfeiture).
Michael White, hired in 1997, experience as a Field Training Officer, Narcotics Street Interdiction Unit, ID-NET and the Firearms Task Force. White has received two Certificates of Commendation, the Mayors Star Initiative Award and a Unit Citation (ID-NET).
Bertram Ettienne, hired in 2001, experience as a patrol Officer in the Beaver hills District, Narcotics Unit, IVE and DEA Task Force. Ettienne has been honored as an Officer of the Month and received a Letter of Recognition.
As we continue to meet our goals and address the recommendations provided in the PERF Report, we prepare to welcome a new academy class of 45 men and women so that, together, we can make this the strongest Police Department anywhere, said DeStefano.
