NEW HAVEN POLICE MAKE TWO ARRESTS FOR FIREARM AND RECKLESS DRIVING CHARGES
(6/2/2009) NEW HAVEN- Monday evening, patrol officers in the Fair Haven section of the city conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Chatham and Rowe Streets. During the course of the motor vehicle stop, Officer Ingles received information that the occupants of the vehicle continually sell narcotics in the area. As the driver of the vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Gregory Teel of 25 Ann Street, was questioned by officers, the passenger ran from the vehicle. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located a handgun and narcotics. Teel was arrested for numerous narcotic related charges, as well as Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Weapon in a Motor Vehicle, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit and numerous motor vehicle violations. The subject who fled from police was identified as 28-year-old Dennis Beverly of 62 Derby Avenue.
A short while later, Officers received information that Beverly entered another vehicle and left the area. Officers patrolled the area and located the vehicle Beverly was believed to be in. The vehicle engaged officers in pursuit and was stopped on I-91 near the Hamilton Street exit ramp. The operator of the vehicle was identified as 29-year-old Don Roundtree of 37 Ridge Road in West Haven. Officers located a firearm in the glove compartment of Roundtree's vehicle. It was later learned that Roundtree had a permit to possess the firearm. Roundtree was arrested and charged with Engaging Police in a Pursuit, Reckless Driving and Interfering with Police. Beverly was not located in Roundtree's vehicle.
