Safe Routes To School - Fair Haven K-8 School
Brief Description of Project:
Former Alderwoman Erin Sturgis Pascal (Ward 14) initiated an application to the State of Connecticut in response to the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Infrastructure Program under the Surface Transportation Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation in September 2009.
The Fair Haven K-8 School is located within a block bounded by Grand Avenue, East Pearl Street, Exchange Street and Ferry Street. The block is mixed commercial and residential. The road network is heavily used and children attending the school must cross wide roads and compete with buses, trucks and cars. Cyclists also use this route and the complexity of movements warrant selective enhancements to improve safety. It is anticipated that the Federal Highway Administration will provide 100% of the construction cost up to a maximum limit of $477,000. Anyone interested in obtaining further information may contact the Engineering Department at 203-946-6417.
