Growing New Haven's Economy | New Haven News

    New Haven in the News

(1/26/2010) from Anne Worceste, Market New Haven

New Haven continues its strong start to 2010 with PR hits in The Star-Ledger, Financial Times, TheCityTraveler.com, Gayot.com, The Today Show and New York Times. The various pieces highlight New Haven's world-class dining, unique hotels & attractions and growing popularity as a hip and affordable residential city. The links along with a brief

description of each article are below. Kind Regards, Anne and team:

    * The Star-Ledger, "Best pizza in New Jersey: One nation under cheese,"

    January 25, 2010

    http://www.nj.com/entertainment/dining/index.ssf/2010/01/one_nation_under_cheese.html

An article about the history of pizza and New Jersey's

top pizza restaurants that gives New Haven the nod as one of the only cities that "comes close" to New York City, which the article names the "center of the U.S. pizza universe." Although we respectively disagree on their assesment, the article does give some well-deserved praise to New Haven's Pepe's, Sally's and Modern. The Star-Ledger is New Jersey's largest circulated newspaper with 287,082 subscribers.

    * Financial Times, "Downtown on an upturn," January 22, 2010

    http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/0dbad50a-0621-11df-8c97-00144feabdc0,dwp_uuid=7f78fdd6-300e-11da-ba9f-00000e2511c8,print=yes.html

Besides inaccuracies about 360 State Street, an overall positive article about living in New Haven that praises the city's influx of ecclectic shops, lively restaurants, downtown nightlife and cultural attractions in contributing to a vibrant (and affordable) place to live for many young

    professionals and first-time home buyers.

    * TheCityTraveler.com, "New Haven: College Visit," January 15, 2010

    http://www.thecitytraveler.com/weekend-jaunt/boston-new-havens-a-no-brainer/

    http://dailywag.marthastewart.com/2009/12/a-visit-to-yale-university.html

A nice destination piece on New Haven that highlights Yale as well as the the city's unique dining, culture and shopping. The article mentions The Study at Yale, The Yale Center for British Art, Yale University Art Gallery, Atticus Bookstore/Cafe as well as Pepe's and Modern. TheCityTraveler is a an online magazine written and edited by travel journalists for readers who love exploring the world's great urban places.

    * Gayot.com, "Top 10 Heart-Healthy Restaurants in the United States,"

    January 2010

    http://www.gayot.com/restaurants/best-us-top10-hearthealthyrestaurants_4_01us.html

This article proudly names New Haven's own Claire's Corner

Copia as one the country's best heart-healthy restaurants, describing Claire's as a "haven for health-food aficionados." Gayot.com features restaurant, hotel and travel reviews and attracts over 162,757 unique visitors per month.

    * The Today Show, "Top 10 Cities for Bargain Homes," January 5, 2010

    http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/26184891/vp/34704060#34704060

In her Today show segment with Ann Curry, real-estate guru Barbara Corcoran points to New Haven as one of America's best values for purchasing a home due to its strong employment base and reasonable prices that make New Haven a "booming community." A must-see clip!

    * New York Times, "In a Pizza Mecca, a Nontraditional Take ," December

    31, 2010 - http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/03/nyregion/03dinect.html

A positive review of New Haven's newest pizzeria, Kitchen Zinc, which serves up creative artisan pies using local, farm-fresh ingredients.
