New Haven (February 3, 2011) – Elm City Handmade, a participant of New Haven Department of Cultural Affairs Project Storefronts program, is offering a series of creative workshops throughout the month of February. Elm City Handmade is a “pop up” craft collective of New Haven area ‘makers’, artists and craftspeople who since September 2010 have opened their doors weekly to crafting enthusiasts. The events include hands-on instruction on silk screening, animation and chair caning. All events are open to the public, however advance registration may be required.
Thru Feb. 12 -DOLLWARS: THE FUTURE OF THE PLANET IS IN YOUR HANDS.
Submit your stuffed characters or art dolls in person on or before 5pm, Feb. 12th.
Feb. 3 - Handmade Hearts, Dessert Tasting & Acoustic Jam Nite, make and take your Valentine or just sing your blues. 7-9pm.
Feb. 5 - Chair Caning Demonstration with Able to Cane. 1-5pm.
Feb. 5 - Crazy Craft Materials Swap. Trade your unloved supplies for new-to-you ones. 1-5pm.
Feb. 12 - DOLLWARS: LAST CHANCE. Have you made your Doll yet? Make your creation (stuffed character or art dolls) on site and enter. 1-5pm.
Feb. 12 - DOLLWARS: JUDGEMENT DAY! The culmination of a month long crafting competition showcasing stuffed characters and art dolls. 5-7pm. Judging and Prizes at 6pm. Refreshments will be served.
Feb. 13 - Handmade Hearts II - make and take your handmade heart. 1-5pm.
Feb. 19 - Silk Screen Technique with Black Unicorn Studios. 1-5pm. *Registration required.
Feb. 23. The succulent gardens of Biome will host a workshop of Terrarium Building. They also offer tips on winter house plant survival. 7-9pm. *Registration required.
Feb. 26 2-5pm - Introduction to Animation with Eric Iannucci. 2-5pm. *Registration required.

Project Storefronts is an initiative led by the New Haven Department of Cultural Affairs with funding from the Economic Development Corporation of New Haven (EDC) and the City of New Haven’s Office of Economic Development.
