Christopher Korenowsky is the seventh City Librarian since the New Haven Free Public Library's founding on February 21, 1887. His predecessor, Mr. James Welbourne, retired on October 1, 2010.A graduate of Kent State University, where he received his Masters of Library and Informational Sciences, Korenowsky has almost 18 years of public library experience gained through his work at the Columbus Metropolitan Library in Columbus, Ohio. From direct public services to administrative management positions, Korenowsky played a strong role in helping to shape CML from 1991 to 2009. Christopher has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Ohio State University. In February 2009, he became the Director of Professional Development for the Ohio Library Council, the statewide organization that advocates legally and educationally for all 251 public libraries in Ohio. In addition to leading library teams through successful fund raising, building projects and budget and revenue generating initiatives, Christopher has extensive experience in working with strategic messaging and branding initiatives in public libraries. Notes Korenowsky, "it is essential that our library has a plan in place that reflects the passion and the success of the staff and the depth of our programs and collections as we move firmly into the 21st century. Through a well executed upcoming community needs analysis and brand identity program, I am excited to start working with the executive leadership team to deliver visual and written messages that reflect our value to the community.
